Bamyan province lies on the highlands of Afghanistan. The province covers an area of 17414 km2 of mostly dry, mountainous terrain with a number of rivers, the largest being the Punjab. Nearly the whole province is mountainous or semi mountainous, while only 1.8% of the area is made up of flat land, as the following table shows
